League of Legends Vs. Dota 2

League of Legends Vs. Dota 2
FIFA 22

The MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) world is dominated by two of the biggest gaming Titans in the Video game industry, League of Legends and Dota 2. Both these giants have defined the entire genera of gaming, and to add, both have very similar origins. For those who don’t know, League of Legends and Dota 2 spawned from the same map of The World of Warcraft 3′ mod, The Frozen Throne Expansion. The main map in the Mod, Defense of the Ancients, or DOTA, which was then modded by the gaming community as a standalone game back in the mid-2000s, is the main origin point of both of these branches.

And the games reflect this in their gameplay and the basic game design that they follow. But despite this, both offer very different gaming experiences, so now, let’s explore what makes these games soo different.

What is the main difference between League of Legends and Dota 2?

Dota 2

Starting off with the sequel of the original Dota, Dota 2, in its essence, is the spiritual successor of the original, the community created Dota, and was released in 2013. Now, Dota 2, despite being the successor, is quite different from the original community Mod, and due to some legal reasons, Valve was not able to carry some niches from the original to the new Dota 2.?

Now that is not to say that Dota 2 is a bad successor. Dota 2 improves on many aspects of the old game, and with somewhat better graphics, an engine that is not bounded, staggered by the old World of Warcraft 3 engine and most of all, a more polished game design that is although hard to learn, once a player gets used to it, the game becomes quite enjoyable to play with friends and online favorite squads alike.

League of Legends

Now with the odd one, League of Legends was made by two university roommates who disliked that developers moved on from one game to another way to fast, leaving their die-hard communities disappointed and quite disheartened, to say the least. They formed Riot games that worked on the community’s Dota and released it as an official online MOBA game in 2009.?

Now League of Legends was not released as a successor to Dota 1, and although built on the same design, it was to provide players a fun game that they could enjoy in years to come. So, they adopted much of the stuff from the original and made a totally different game with much better graphics and interface that was easy to get used to and start playing while demanding a lot from the player to master it.

Which MOBA should you choose?

So, the simple answer to that question. If you have the time and the commitment to learn about complex game mechanics right at the start of a game and don’t want to be limited behind a paywall, then Dota 2 is a good title to check out. On the other hand, if you just want to get started easy and learn all the hard stuff as you go on and don’t mind some features locked behind a paywall, then trying League of Legends with some buddies could suit you well.

The end choice is for you to make and despite the differences that long term players may go on about, the games are very similar in their essence and no matter which you choose, some commitment is required to play both games, more so in one at the start and later on in the other one.
